Here's a sister pair of 'bones from last year. They have very similar red spruce tops, and are braced and "tuned" as closely as I could manage. One has cocobolo b/s, one has Honduran rosewood b/s. They sound... quite 'similar', but not the same. I find it hard to tell what is caused by the materials properties, inconsistencies in construction, or what. The differences are subtle, and interesting to note.

The coco now lives permanently in a professional recording studio, and is used for various types of music, I'm told. The Hondo went to a local bluegrass enthusiast, who will no doubt bring it to numerous gig, festivals and whatnot. It should be interesting to hear them together again in a few years...

Here is an odd-style dread that I am building for a client in Australia. Tamarind back and sides, adirondack top, black ebony/leopardwood trim.
